Generations got out to a good start to kick off the 2014 season, jumping out to a 4-1 lead in the 1st inning against the 3-time defending champions, Billings. Generations' offense fizzled down after first 7 batters all reached base in the 1st, while 6 of their next 7 batters failed to reach. Down 8-4, Kari Deitle (1 hits, 2 Rs) started a rally 6th inning, leading off the inning with a home run and Player of the Game Brittni Grasso (2 hits, 2 RBI) capped the 4-run inning with a game tying RBI. Brittni also contributed with solid defense and tied for the team lead in both hits and RBI to earn the first Game Ball of the season. With the game tied at 8-8 in the 7th inning, Billings' bats got hot and Generations' defense fell apart committing 5 errors leading to the team's first loss to open the season. MacKenzie "MK" Schupp (1 hit, 2Rs) pitched a very solid 3 innings, and MacKenzie "Hyper" Ardito (2 RBI) and Taylor Overbye (1 RBI, 2 Rs) added to the offense 2 hits each.
8 of Billings' 15 runs were unearned. It was a very winnable game, but 10 errors in a game won't get the job done. We will build off of this game now that we got the first game jitters out of the way and we will have a great season!
