Club Day!

I am so exited to meet all of you this Recreation Season!  Today is Club Day at the soccer fields behind Bay College.  You will get your jersey, meet me your coach, and get some basic information for the season.  Together I know we will make this season a lot of fun for everyone.

Your Coach's Background:  My name is Joe Basso and I have been coaching soccer since 2010.  I hold an F License with US Soccer, and a Coaching Diploma with United Soccer Coaches.  I am the Director of Coaching for Bayside Soccer, and serve as the head coach of Power Soccer Academy: Escanaba.

I have 4 children playing soccer in all of our divisions and really enjoy helping them learn the game. I played soccer in high school and club soccer in college, but I have had the most fun with the sport coaching and playing at Bayside Soccer.  I am so glad you decided to be a part of our recreation program.

Why I Coach:  My goal is to provide a fun yet challenging environment for your child which supports their growth physically, mentally, and socially. Ultimately I coach because I love seeing young players learn, laugh, and grow.  My goal is not soccer perfection, but to give your children great memories and good foundations for life beyond the sidelines of our field.

Finally, to get the most out of this season please make sure your player has the following:
1. Support from you!  Make time at home to kick the ball with them.  Let them teach you what they are learning.  You are welcome to enter the field while we practice and observe the instruction, drills, and even help if you are so inclined.

2. Equipment:  Ensure your player has shin-guards, soccer socks, soccer cleats (or baseball with the toe cleat cut off), a size 4 soccer ball, and a water bottle.  We will provide goalie gloves for those who play goalie.

3. Encouraging cheering and laughter from the sidelines:  During our games we encourage you to cheer, shout encouraging words, and praise your child and their team.  Please refrain from criticism of the referees, players, or coaches.

Thank you so much for registering with Bayside Soccer.  I look forward to meeting you all.
